  Considering Online:
Online subjects offer you the opportunity to learn in an independent, non-traditional, more flexible manner. Nearly all your coursework will be done via computer using the system of delivery chosen by your professor (Blackboard, First Class or a combination). There are no scheduled classes, but some assignments, as well as the final exam, will be written on campus. Your professor will indicate his/her availibility for consultation online/onsite by appointment.

You are a good candidate if you are self-disciplined, have strong time management skills, and are motivated to direct your own studies. Strong reading and writing skills are also essential for success.

If you do not have a home computer with an internet connection, you could still do your work from the Learning Commons.

REMINDER: Check that the online subject you are considering meets your English and Liberal Studies requirements for graduation.
  Registering for Online:

Electives:

Use SIRIS to register for online English or Liberal Studies electives. If the subject does not appear on SIRIS, it means that the class is full. Keep trying up to the first week of classes to see if space becomes available.

Prescribed Subjects:

• You cannot use SIRIS to register for online EAC150 and EAC394
• The school may place you in an online section
• If you are placed in an online section and would prefer an in-class section, see your English & Liberal Studies coordinator
• If you are not placed in an online section, but think you are a good candidate, see your English & Liberal Studies coordinator.

If you are registered in an online section, the subject code will be listed at the bottom of your timetable, and may appear in a dummy spot on your timetable. For difficulties with registering in an online subject, see your English & Liberal Studies coordinator.

  Getting Started Online:

TO GET STARTED IN YOUR ONLINE SUBJECT - READ YOUR LEARN E-MAIL!

At the beginning of the semester, there will be a message waiting in your learn account to tell you which delivery method is being used for the subject, and how you can use it to start the course.

Please follow the instructions carefully.

If you are admitted late to the subject, e-mail your professor right away to get the start-up instructions and get caught up on course work. If you decide that online is not for you, remember that you only have until Day 5 of the semester to switch to an in-class subject!
